and Greetings !
Dear Asif,
Congradulations. You are doing very
good for yourself and I am proud of you. I do hope and pray that
this note finds you in the very best of health and happiness. As
for myself, all goes well.
1. I will get a website message to you
by the 15th when I return from travels.
2. I also get to you a personal history.
Can E-mail transmit 1000 page document????
3. Concerning the history of the school,
I think there was a very good history of the school written in the 1979-1980
yearbook. If you contact Mr. Moinuddin Ahmed at MOINS@bangla.net
and he might be able to send it to you. If not then request the Headmaster
of the School, Brother John Rozario, CSC, and he will be able
to help you and request him to send you the 79-80 yearbook if there are
any copies of it left. Tell him what you want it for and he will
co-operate with you. Even the school seal is on the letterhead of
the stationary. (Scan and copy, and paste it to your web site.)
4. concerning the former Brothers:
Brother Robert Bellermine id dead. He died 3 years ago. Brother
Thomas More is residing at the Narinda Technical School. and his address
is: 32 Shah Shaheb Lane, Narinda, Dhaka 1100, Bangladesh. Brother
Ronald Christenson, who taught at St. Joseph's, lives here with me.
Brother Gerald Kraeger former Headmaster, is dead. Now, as for myself,
all is going well. I am back to working 6 days a week with computers in
the Archives of the Brothers of Holy Cross. Healthwise I am doing
very good. My doctor who gave me a check up a
couple of days ago, said that my 22 year
old heart was sounding good. There is practically no rejection
of the transplanted heart. My medicines are reduced to minimum (
9 a day). I feel great and by the grace of God and His continual
blessings, I will continue to improve. I can do anything I want except
Bungee jumping and return to Bangladesh. I really miss the place
and the people.
Let me know some news of yourself.
Married, children, studies finished, yor parents and relatives and the
old Josephites. I have very fond memories of St. Joseph and the students.
I will cherish them all my life.
Thank you again for the surprising e-mail
and concern. God bless and keep you and all the Josephites in the
best of health and happiness. Let us continue to pray for each other
in our daily
prayers. Peace and Love,
Brother Ralph, CSC (Moga Miah)

Hello, Salam !!
Dear Naurose, thank you very much
for your kind letter and news. I periodically tune into the
Josephite web page to see what has been added. It is due for an overhaul
and fix-up. Good luck on your work.
Concerning: A history of St. Joseph,
contact Brother John Rozario, CSC, present Headmaster and ask him for a
copy of the history of St. Joseph that I wrote in the yearbook for the
25th Anniversary of St. Joseph High School. I think it was the 1979-1980
issue. Another source of information would be Mr. Moinuddin Ahmed,
your beloved teacher. He would know where to get it. His email
address is : MOINS@bangla.net Concerning my history and comments
about me and the batch of 89. I will work on that this weekend and
e-mail you material for that. Please be patient.
Concerning my health: I have a great
22 year old heart in my body and my body is not rejecting it. In
fact, the doctors are beginning to wean me off the rejection drugs, to
see how the heart will do. I feel great and am working 5 days a week,
7 hours a day. Now that winter is going, I am looking forward to
walking 4 miles a day to keep in shape. I have gained some weight
due to the prednizones and neoral pills that I have been taking.
Hopefully, my body likes my new 22 year old male heart. Praise the Lord
for His many blessings.
Again thanks for the concern and greetings.
I return the prayers and greetings and cherish the memories of the "old"
days at St. Joseph's. Peace and prayers, Moga Miah

Subject: Number
One???
Date: Sat, 20

From: Ralph Baird
To: ras@gvn.net
Dear Ras,
Dear Ras, There is one and only one Brother
Ralph, also known as Moga Miah, whsose first words when entering your classroom
were: "Number One!' Also I was the one who ran the sports program, gave
beatings to the students (I can't recall giving you one) and was most beloved
by all his students. I am he. I do hope and pray that this letter will
find all of you in the very best of health and happiness. As for myself,
all is well. I do not know if I have enough time and space to let you know
what happened to me since you left. The students in Karachi must have teased
you about you coming
from St. Joseph's School (A girls school
in Karachi) I stayed at St. Joseph's until 1974 when it changed over to
Bengali Medium and the Cambridge syllabus was dropped in favor of the Board
syllabus. I then went to our village school in Bandura in the Dhaka District
to re-learn Bengali. I taught out there for 5 years and returned to St.
Joseph's to help the aging Bro. Robert, who has since died.
IIn 1980 I was appointed Headmaster of
St. Joseph's and held that post for 5 years. In 1984, I had my first of
many heart attacks and had to resign my post and return to the States for
treatment. In 1989 I had a massive heartattack and was flowed from Dhaka
to Chicago via London. In Chicago an
ambulance took me to South Bend, (Notre
Dame) and I received a quadruple by-pass. I returned to Bangladesh and
worked at St. Gregory's and St. Placid's for a couple of years each. I
then reutrned to Dhaka and become the Secretary of the Brothers' Provincial
and kept the books. In 1996 weakened
with more heart troubles I returned to
Notre Dame. There the doctors told me that there was nothing they could
do for my heart. The did recommend a Heart Transplant which I had on the
5th of November, 1997, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana after
8 months of waiting for the heart in
the intensive care connected to tubes
and an left ventricular heart assistance pump which kept me alive. (There
is more to this part of my life which I can save until a later date.) I
returned to Notre Dame with my new 21 year old heart and recovered and
recuperated and then after 5 months I went
back to work in the Provincial Archives
5 days a week, 7 hours a day. I am putting all the info since 1853 into
the computer records. I feel great and daily I praise the Lord for His
great blessings given to me. I have recovered and right now I do not have
any rejection for the last 16 months. Let us continue to praise the Lord
for His continued blessings to me an all my friends. Other news, Brothers
Gerald Kraegar and Lorenzo Powers have died. Bro. William Sheehan left
our Brotherhood and I lost touch with him. Brother John Harris is out in
Mountain View, CA. He just has surgery for possible Cancer of the Unirary
bladder. He is recovering nicely. He is still in the hospital. His house
where he lives with other Brothers is: 1885 Miramonte Avenue, Mountain
View, CA, 94040-4098. Tel: 650-967-2530. e-mail jlharris@sfhs.com
I am running out of time. I will write
more when you answer this note but let me know all about your times and
parents since "little" Ras left Mohammedpur. I am proud of your achievements.
Keep in touch. It was very nice to hear from you. Let us pray for each
outhger in our daily prayers.
Peace and Love, Brother Ralph Baird, CSC
